Membership

ONGIA membership is open to “sworn members of law enforcement agencies” at present. This includes but is not restricted to Police Officers, Probation Officers, Corrections Officers, Immigration Officers and Customs Officers.

The annual membership fee is $30.

Membership runs on a recurring basis, annually. Members must renew yearly and will be informed via email when memberships are soon to expire.

If you attend the annual conference in November the membership fee is included in your registration.

Our Mission

Although ONGIA’s original focus was on street gangs, the expanse of threats ONGIA now recognizes as having influence on street gangs also include other threat groups such as Terrorists, Outlaw Bikers, Extremists and Traditional organized crime groups.

The age of technology has not passed these groups and there are more and more interdependencies and sophistication among them, requiring more active interdiction from law enforcement.

ONGIA is a non-profit organization that is committed to addressing the street gang phenomenon. ONGIA consists of law enforcement professionals and members of the criminal justice community throughout Ontario, Canada and North America.

Welcome to ONGIA's new membership website! The primary function of this website is to provide an information sharing forum on the topic of criminal street gangs for our 600+ membership that is made up of sworn members of the law enforcement community. In 2006 ONGIA has undertaken to reach out to the community with information on the prevention of gangs through its interactive 'Voices of Youth' website www.NoToGangs.org.

Presidents Message

This perverse mentality has gained a significant foothold in Ontario. It is not contained or limited by geography, race or economic status. Spurred forward through popular culture where ‘no snitching’ and ‘gangsta’ are as commonly heard in playgrounds as they are in jails, law enforcement and communities face dire challenges.

It is the challenges of breaking the cycles of gang criminality as well as addressing attitudes towards gang and gun violence that the Ontario Gang Investigators Association seeks to address. This is accomplished through contributing to the safety of committed law enforcement professionals who have made the valiant decision to serve their communities by providing these altruists with the most up to date resources and tools available worldwide to properly assess risk. Just as important, the Ontario Gang Investigators Association also involves community partners, educators, and parents in the fight against gangs by offering information and support in order to identify individuals and communities at risk and provide harm reduction tools and strategies.
